How the cannabis extract Cannabidiol affects inflammatory Bowel Diseases
Research has shown that cells that react to cannabinoid compounds play an important role in normal gut function as well as the immune system’s inflammatory response.
Two compounds found in the cannabis plant – the well-known psychoactive, THC, and the non-psychoactive cannabinoid, cannabidiol – interact with the body’s system that controls gut function.
This could help inform the treatment of the inflammatory bowel conditions Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, which affect millions of people.
